PETRONAS Sprinta Racing’s Darryn Binder will start tomorrow’s Gran Premio Made in Italy e dell’Emilia Romagna from the 16th spot on the grid.

Despite the mist and light rain in FP3, Darryn was able to put in consistently quick laps times and stay at the sharp end of the timing screens all session. With a fastest time of 1min 52.326secs, he ended FP3 10th and secured a Q2 place.

Qualifying proved to be trickier for the South African and he struggled to complete a lap that matched his potential. Towards the end of the session Darryn was able to set a 1min 51.025secs lap, which will see him line up 16th on the grid tomorrow.

It’s been a strange day. This morning I thought we might have been in for a dry day, but the rain came again. I managed to improve in the wet of FP3 and got through to Q2, so I’m quite happy with that. We had tricky conditions in Qualifying where you didn’t know if it was dry or wet. Then we had a small dry line forming. I was lucky enough to have my team-mate come through to Q2 from Q1, so he could tell me what the track was like. I went out and did my best on the wet tyres, but unfortunately I didn’t have the best feeling in the mixed conditions and I struggled to put a fast lap together. I really hope that tomorrow is dry, because that would definitely benefit me! We know what our base setting is in dry conditions from the last GP here. I’m really looking forward to the race and hoping I can do even better than last time.
