Darryn sets to work at Valencia, ends the day second fastest

The opening day of the Gran Premio de la Comunitat Valenciana proved to be a day of two halves for PETRONAS Sprinta Racing, who faced a dry FP1 and a damp FP2.

With a slightly green circuit at Valencia, Darryn Binder spent time adjusting to the track and waited until the end of FP1 to set his fastest lap. The South African ended the session with the second fastest lap: 1min 39.609secs. Darryn was straight out in FP2 to assess the damp track conditions, due to earlier rain showers. However he opted to return to the garage and sit out of the rest of the session, with times unable to be improved. He ended the day in second overall.

I’m happy with today and we were fortunate that today started off dry, so I was able to get in a lot of laps. I put in a good lap time at the end and I’m feeling confident. Unfortunately with the rain after FP1, it didn’t quite dry up enough for FP2. I did an out lap on the wets to check it out, but it was too dry for the wets and a little bit too tricky for the slicks. I didn’t feel like risking anything today, so I sat in the box for most of the session. I’m feeling good though and ready to try my best tomorrow.
