Darryn qualifies 14th for #BritishGP at rain-hit Silverstone

Rain was THE main subject at Silverstone this Saturday. And so it was for the LIQUI MOLY Husqvarna Intact GP Moto2 team, who ambitiously worked with Darryn Binder and Lukas Tulovic to improve their feel for these challenging conditions. For the hopefully dry race Sunday, Darryn secured row five.

In the third Moto2 practice session at the British Grand Prix, heavy rain made it almost impossible to push for fast times. There was too much spray and too little feeling for the bike. Despite these difficulties, Darryn worked hard to understand his Kalex and prepare for the crucial qualifying session in the afternoon. The track was still wet, but nothing compared to the morning, and so the 25-year-old did everything he could to make it into the second qualifying session. With his last lap and a time of 2’19.208, the South African took this hurdle and, after another 15 minutes in Q2, finally ended up in 14th position, which means the fifth row of the grid for tomorrow’s race Sunday.

The lights for the ninth race of the Moto2 World Championship season will exceptionally go out tomorrow at 14:30 (15:30 CET), after the MotoGP race.

P14 (Q2) – 2’19.222 (+2.269)

“Today the weather was completely different from yesterday. The FP3 this morning was very very wet so I did as many laps as I could this morning to try and gain as much feeling as possible for the Qualifying. In Q1, in the last lap, I managed to just make it through to Q2, where I tried to give it my best. Unfortunately, I was lacking a bit of speed but the 14th place is okay for tomorrow. I will just be getting out in the race, trying to cling on to a group and try to learn as much as I can and keep improving.”
