PETRONAS Sprinta Racing’s Darryn Binder ended the opening day of the Gran Premio Made in Italy e dell’Emilia Romagna 21st, after two wet sessions with multiple yellow flags.

Dasrryn headed straight out in FP1 to assess the wet conditions and started the session with a series of strong laps, which placed inside the top-five for a while. At the end of the 40 minutes his 1min 54.565secs lap placed him 16th. With further rain during the lunch break, he had a steady start to FP2, but moved into third at the halfway point. Only improving upon his morning time in the final moments of the session, Darryn ended FP2 20th – with a 1min 54.302secs lap – and was 21st overall.

We’ve had two wet sessions today and I felt good at the start of them: I had good rhythm with a decent pace and I was getting faster, but at the end of the sessions I just couldn’t step it up. It’s really strange. I don’t feel like it reflects the work that we’ve done today, so we’re going to try to find some speed tonight, because we’re missing that fast lap.
Last time we were here it was dry all weekend, so we know that set up, and we focused on getting the wet set up as good as we can today. We’ll take the weather as it comes, but we’re ready for whatever it throws at us. I always like to be on the first three rows, although it doesn’t matter too much for Moto3, but of course it would be nice to be on pole.
