Darryn lines up on row 7 of the grid for the #GermanGP

Changeable conditions made the set-up work of LIQUI MOLY Husqvarna Intact GP Moto2 riders Darryn Binder and Lukas Tulovic difficult. After failing to advance to Q2, the teammates both start Sunday’s 25-lap race from positions 19 and 21 on the seventh row.

The view of Darryn Binder is somewhat bittersweet, because the South African got along well on the traditional Saxon race track right from the start. In the dry Q1 qualifying, the 25-year-old had a good feeling and was sure he had his ticket to Q2. But unfortunately, his opponents stepped up the game and so he slipped out of the decisive Top4 by just 0.093s.

Darryn could do nothing more, but knows that his pace will be enough for a successful German Grand Prix, even from P19, and is happy to be able to attack right from turn 1.

The race start for the seventh Moto2 race of the season is at 12:15 (CEST).

“I went out there to put in a couple of laps in the beginning. When I came in I thought I’d done enough to keep the spot to Q2. I had a tyre ready to go but I wanted to save it to have a backup in Q2 as I wanted to give it two good go’s and take a solid grid position. Like I said, I thought I was safe and waited it out and that was clearly a mistake on my part. I should have put the tyre on and gone out. It is what it is and unfortunately, I will have to start from the 19th grid position tomorrow. We haven’t had many dry laps yet so it will be difficult to say what our chances are in the race but I’m sure I’ll find my way into the top 10 tomorrow.”
