Row 7 start for Darryn in Jerez

In the highly competitive Moto2 class, LIQUI MOLY Husqvarna Intact GP Moto2 team riders only just missed out on making it out of Q1 and will start the fourth round of the season at the Circuito de Jerez – Ángel Nieto together from the seventh row on Sunday.

Darryn used the morning rain over the traditional Andalusian racetrack to gain experience with the new Pirelli tyres. The South African will line up in grid position 21 for Sunday’s race, which is expected to be sunny, after narrowly missing out on Q2, as did his team-mate Senna Agius. The 26-year-old South African is now focussing on a good start, which should enable him to catch up with the points positions.

“Unfortunately, there was a slight change in the weather this morning with a wet Practice two, but it was good because it was the first time we had ridden in the wet with the Pirelli rain tyres and we were able to gather useful information. This allowed us to gradually develop a good understanding for the next time it rains again. On the other hand, we had no chance to improve. So, we had to go straight into Q1, where the track was drying out but still had wet patches, which made it a bit difficult. Nevertheless, I did my best and the gaps were very close though, we only just missed out on making it into Q2. But overall, I have the feeling that we are moving in the right direction. For the race tomorrow, I hope that we can gather as much information as possible, especially for the test on Tuesday, to find our way forward.”
