LIQUI MOLY Husqvarna Intact GP Moto2 rider Darryn Binder took a strong fifth place in Q2 at Mugello and consequently the second row of the grid to make a big impression ahead of the race Sunday.

In front of the unique backdrop of the Mugello Circuit and under bright sunshine, Darryn completed a brilliant Qualifying 2 after setting a decisive time early on in Q1, which ultimately guaranteed him his entry to Q2 as second-fastest. The 26-year-old finished Q2 in fifth place after pushing a further fifteen minutes and thanks to his 1’50.346, he was just 0.469s behind pole man Joe Roberts and is now the hope of the weekend for the German racing team.

Starting from the second row of the grid, the South African will be hoping for a good start that will put him right in the fight in the middle of the leading group.

“I’m very happy with how things went today. This weekend has been really positive for me so far because I’m making good steps forward with every session. It feels great because I’ve had a tough year up to this point and it’s really nice to see a light at the end of the tunnel. On top of that, I have a good starting position for tomorrow’s race, and I felt confident all weekend. So, I will try to do my best tomorrow. Hopefully, I will be able to fight for a good position. But it’s difficult to make any predictions after not always doing so well this year. I always give my 100 per cent, and that goes for all the other riders too. But as I said, I will try to do my best and bring home some solid points.”
